Born in Harlem, raised in Washington Heights, New York City, twenty-seven year old designer, filmmaker and artist Jarrett Woo is a product of his environment inspired by his city and global experiences. Son of legendary Jazz musician Phillip Woo, Jarrett spent much of his childhood touring the world with his family. His infantile view of the world was reflected in his early art which, at eight, earned him a unique permanent exhibition in a public artistic space in the New York City's Subway System.
Woo continued his formal art education at the High School of Art & Design in New York City, the renowned Cooper Union's Scholar Saturday program and received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Communication Design at The New School's Parsons School of Design specializing in Branding Advertising & Motion/ Graphic Design. After graduation he went on to work for several prestigious companies: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Milton Glaser Inc, Berlin Cameron and Naked Communications where at 23 he served as the firm's Art Director. While at Naked, Woo imposed his vision on major accounts like Coca-Cola, Nike, Johnson & Johnson, Calvin Klein and Vitamin Water to name a few.
In 2009 Jarrett Woo founded LightUp Film, a Production House in NYC, under the legendary Woo Art International. LightUp Film is a full service production company who, since inception, has become a powerhouse in New York City. LightUp has released a wide array of projects ranging from documentaries on the 2010 BP oil spill to pioneering fashion blog Street Etiquette’s Sartorial Sounds and contributions to the 2011 Ford Edge commercial campaign, not to mention releasing countless independent music videos.
Woo is also the Artistic Brand Manager for singer/songwriter Jesse Boykins III. In partnership with Jesse and Jesse’s label, NomaDic Music, Woo is responsible for visual campaigns, logo designs, album artwork, and marketing strategies. Woo has worked passionately and tireless on every aspect of Jesse's career to help the young artist achieve worldwide recognition and success that only continues to grow.
Personally, Woo continues to create art, recently having a piece featured at Creative Lab gallery in Brooklyn NY. He is also working on his first full-length feature film and TV Series.
